The One When the Parents Come into Town

If your parents are anything like mine, they enjoy vacations where we are constantly sight-seeing and doing as many activities as we can in the shortest amount of time. Being a junior at the University of Arkansas, my parents have made numerous trips to Fayetteville, and pretty much know the ins and outs of this fast-growing college town. I have accumulated a list of places and sight-sees that you are your family should definitely do this Parent’s Weekend on The Hill.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Bentonville

If you haven’t made a trip to this New-York worthy museum, start heading up north now! It has free parking and entry with a small fee for extra exhibits. My parent’s favorite part is the outdoor sculpture walk.

The Fayetteville Farmer’s Market

Fayetteville Town Square

The Farmer’s Market is in full swing during the fall season -- it is open every Saturday morning from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. This is a must see for any family. If you want to wake up even earlier for that 11:00 am game this weekend, think about stopping at the square for a food truck breakfast or fresh fruit and flowers.

Devil’s Den State Park

This State Park just a 40-minute drive from Fayetteville is chalk full of hiking trails and beautiful scenery. There is a trail for the beginner hiker and a trail for the expert outdoorsman/woman and a photo opportunity for everyone.

Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs is a bit of a drive from the hometown of the hogs, however, if you have the time, it’s worth the gas money. This town is something out of a story book with several castles to tour, an all glass church in the mountains, and a haunted mansion.

Shopping on the Square

Fayetteville Town Square

Fayetteville is home to some of the best boutiques with the most unique styles you can’t find anywhere else. Don’t forget to show mom and dad what you want for Christmas and future game day attire!

Last but not least – don’t forget to swing by the Alpha Chi Dad’s Day Tailgate from 8:00-11:00 am at the gardens for pancakes, bacon, and all your mornin’ fixins.
